About Me

Running Background

I first started running in 1990. I was in 8th grade and joined the track team. I wasn't very good and didn't thrive under the pressure. Since I wasn't the star of the team, I didn't run again until my sophomore year of high school.

I started running again on my own, not as part of the track team and I discovered joy in the solitude and peace in the rhythmic motion. I ran regularly until my junior year in college when working and studying began to take up too much of my time. Even though I missed running and thought about it every day, I just couldn't fit it into my schedule.

Running the Pittsburgh Marathon in 2002 for Team in Training.
After graduation I started running regularly again. I was so thrilled to be running again that I did too much too fast and developed Achilles tendinitis in my left ankle, which tends to fare up when I over do it.

Once my ankle was stronger, I signed up with Leukemia Lymphoma Society Team in Training. During my months of training for the Pittsburgh Marathon, I participated in a bunch of 5Ks and a half marathon.

After the Pittsburgh Marathon, I ran and finished the Marine Corps Marathon, but didn't put in enough training to get a good time. I think two marathons in six months was a bit overzealous, but I also think I was more inspired to train for the Pittsburgh Marathon because I was running for a cause.

Since my daughter was born seven years ago, I've had a set weekly running schedule  (before I got pregnant this summer I was up to 50 miles a week training for the 2015 Pittsburgh Marathon) and participated in 5Ks and half marathons.
