Fireworks in a Jar: A Spark of Faith for Little Hearts

Have you ever watched fireworks light up the night sky and felt a sense of wonder? That burst of color, that sudden brilliance—it’s like joy exploding in the darkness. But what if I told you that kind of light can live inside a jar? Even better, what if it could live inside you?

The Little Jar

Once upon a time, there was a small, empty jar sitting on a windowsill. It wasn’t fancy. It didn’t glow or sparkle. It just sat there, waiting for someone to put it in the recycling bin. One day, a child came along with a few simple things: a little oil, some water, and a few drops of food coloring. He poured them in carefully, stirred gently, popped in an Alka-Seltzer tablet and then—boom!—colors began to swirl and dance like tiny fireworks.

The jar didn’t know it could do that. It didn’t know it could hold something so beautiful.

The Light Inside Us

Sometimes, we feel like that jar—plain, small, maybe even a little empty. But with just a tiny bit of faith, as small as a mustard seed, we can shine in ways we never imagined.

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” That means even when things feel dark or confusing, your kindness, your prayers, your faith—they’re like fireworks in a jar. They light up the world around you.

Faith That Glows

Faith doesn’t always look like big miracles. Sometimes it’s a quiet prayer before bed or before a meal. A kind word to someone alone. An act of bravery when you are scared. These are the sparks that glow inside your heart. And when you let them shine, others see God’s love through you. For parents, you can shine God's love to your children by developing and keeping a personal relationship with Jesus that includes a church family, regular quiet time with the Bible and praying out loud.

Try This at Home

Want to see your own “fireworks in a jar”?

You need:

  • vegetable oil,
  • water,
  • food coloring,
  • glitter (optional)
  • and an Alka-Seltzer tablet or two.

As you watch the colors swirl, remember just like that jar, you are full of potential. God has placed something beautiful inside you. Let it shine.

You Are a Light

The next time you see fireworks, remember you don’t have to wait for the 4th of July to shine. You already carry the light of God’s love. And when you share it, even in small ways, it’s like setting off fireworks in someone else’s heart.

Let your light sparkle. Let your faith glow. You are God’s little jar of wonder.
